I thought everything would be closed today…

I stocked up on water. I went shopping yesterday. I cursed myself for not buying olive oil, and then I remembered that I’d bought some “fancy”(rip off!) oil in Istanbul, so game on, I could cook today.

Turns out I needn’t have worried. I was sitting around today thinking…I know it’s cold, but I should at least put on some real clothes and go for a walk instead of giving into the nap that I so badly wanted to take. Listening to the angel on my shoulder for a change (the devil on the other shoulder and I are pretty good friends) I grabbed my camera, and hit the streets. As soon as I opened my door, I noticed people going into the pizza place across the street. Hmm. I wonder what else is open? Turns out - just about eveything.

Pizza shop, casino/bar on the corner, the Irish pub (ok, that one I was expecting), the cosmetic shop around the corner, and of course, good ol’ Mister Snack…

…complete with Santa stencil beckoning in the hungry.  I didn’t walk down to any of the main shopping areas because I was so cold by the time I got done taking photos of the Mascots of Christmas (next post) but a friend of mine just called me up to ask if I wanted to go grab a coffee in a few hours, so I’m just going to go with EVERYTHING is open today. Merry Christmas, this town rocks.

If I ever moved away from Chicago, I would miss the “boob santas” painted by scary transient dudes on all the shop windows.

    Mister Snack? That is SWEET!

I was thinking “why are they doing christmas stuff on the 7th of January, then i remembered… ORTHODOX CHRISTMAS! I need to revive the orthodoxy in my family. And call my religious aunt.
